QVEVRI ARTISANAL WINES

Land, Work,
Tradition.

Qvevri, indigenous grapes from sustainable agriculture, hand-picked grapes, limited production and in-depth research of authenticity and quality of the product.

Our wines are handmade and produced exclusively in Georgian-style amphorae (Qvevri) following the ancient tradition and philosophy of such wines. Qvevri enable the micro-oxygenation of the wine, exactly as it happens in French barriques, but without releasing the typical tannins from the wood that may change its nature, its soul, its authenticity.

All our vineyards are grown naturally without the use of chemicals or mechanization. Only the best grapes are selected, hand-picked during the month of September and lightly pressed. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeast species occurs in the Qvevri: no chemicals, no corrections, minimal amount of sulfites, no clarification and no filtration

Antonio Sauchella, sommelier and world explorer, after living in Asia and discovering this philosophy, decided, together with Angelo Iannotti, a multi-generational winemaker and sommelier, to bring these unconventional methods back to their land in Southern Italy, to experiment and produce an authentic wine that is art, poetry and history.

LAND & GRAPES copia

There is a deep and inseparable link between a territory and its wines.
A link that is rooted in history and arises from the deep man-land relationship: a union that is based on respect for nature, enhancing the real identity of the territory.

The Campania region, in Southern Italy, is made of volcanic, clay and limestone soil, and has been devoted to the production of wines since antiquity. It possesses fine grape varieties and produces great elegant wines with specific characteristics.

The largest winemaking area in this region is Sannio, a locality of beautiful hills covered with vineyards amid splendid exposure to the Mediterranean sun and dry wind, which has been named European Capital of Wine.

LAND & GRAPES copia

Falanghina: Sannio’s most famous indigenous white grape variety. Famous wine of Ancient Rome. Praised by Pliny the Elder and quoted even by poets of the past, Falanghina was the wine of emperors and the court of Naples.

Camaiola: an indigenous red grape variety grown exclusively in the province of Benevento. Its history is very ancient: in fact, excavations in the city of Pompeii, destroyed by the eruption of the Vesuvius in 79 AD, unearthed amphorae bearing the name of C. Cornelius Hermeros, a Pompeian merchant who traded goods throughout the Mediterranean. In these amphorae, “Gauranum” and “Telesinum” wines were found, which are made exclusively from the Camaiola grape.

The array of Sannio grape varieties is completed by other indigenous varieties, especially Aglianico, Fiano, Coda di Volpe, Greco, Biancolella and Malvasia di Candia aromatica.

Between the Caucasus Mountains and the Black Sea lies the cradle of world viticulture: Georgia.
In these regions, wine has been produced for 8,000 years.

From here come the famous Qvevri, terracotta vessels that have facilitated winemaking, transportation and storage of wine for millennia. Their use later expanded throughout Europe.

This ancestral technique makes the wines particularly complex, with colors that turn to amber tones, aromas pervaded by an oxidative note and a very particular taste, fresh, intense with long persistence.

Wine, like art, is creativity and gives expression to your emotions, your spirit, your soul.

Our labels are unique and made by artists from all over the world. One of them, Juan Carlos Polo Chaviano, lives in Cuba. He is the one who created our logo and our mascot, “Gordito”.
A joyful happy man with a glass of wine in his hand, who invites anyone who opens one of our bottles to make a toast, a cheers to life.
